Who We Are
Our aim is to inspire and delight. We go beyond the expected, devising innovative solutions to complex marketing problems and transforming businesses
Strong brands are built through a consistent process of evaluation, intelligent strategy and investment in outstanding creative. Every project we undertake, from a simple corporate identity to a full blown website-integrated campaign, starts at the brand; the big idea that underpins and drives the direction of all marketing activity.
Effective design requires a balance of knowledge and intuition, a compromise between best practice and rule breaking. A deep understanding of our client's challenges, aspirations and goals, informed by our wide industry experience, enables us to deliver creative projects that contribute real business value. Our people get it. Underlying their considerable individual strengths, what connects and inspires each of us is a commitment to the client, their brand and their continued success.
So what are we? Sure, we’re a web design and digital marketing agency. But we’re more than that. We are a Brand agency; we listen, inspire, create, deliver and evaluate. We devise original ideas and deploy them intelligently across multiple channels – energising business performance and transforming company cultures.
Justin studied graphic design, illustration and photography at Portsmouth College of Art. Having worked as an illustrator and graphic designer he started Orbital with Helen in 1999. He looks after a number of key clients and manages the day-to-day running of the business. His interest in technology and design keeps him involved in creative strategy, photography, coding and design. Away from work he can often be found up a mountain either on foot, on a bike or strapped to a snowboard. Back down to earth he has a growing collection of 1960’s scooters, he loves music, plays guitar and drinks wine and whisky.
Helen’s creative career started at Plymouth University where she gained a first-class degree in Graphic Design. She met Justin in 1995 and together they started Orbital in 1999. The creative force driving the company, her sophisticated award-winning typography and layout, balanced by strong imagery, has defined much of the work we do. Helen loves travel, food and the great outdoors - in the holidays she can usually be found getting amongst the elements with the kids in tow… under canvas, on a cornish beach or warming up in a youth hostel in the peaks.
Head of Digital
From the year zero Al was destined to work in marketing. He studied advertising and marketing at Bournemouth University, leaving with a first class masters degree in digital media and creative strategy. As Head of Digital he helps clients cut through the noise online to get their messages, products and services out there making money. When not staring at a screen or sinking the black on the pool table he can be found being creative at home (a long story) or chasing the wind (storms and tornadoes – again, a long story)! Then again, he can often be found cooking up a storm on his ‘outdoor kitchen’ (that’s a BBQ to you and me).
Senior Account Manager
Jenny studied printmaking, art & design and psychology and has worked in advertising sales, as a conference and events co-ordinator and in recruitment and training for a large London agency. She has close working relationships with her long-established clients and delivers a broad range of digital and print-based projects. At heart Jenny’s a bit of a traveller. Weekends will find her tripping out in her bongo or, grubby-faced kids in tow, soaking up the atmosphere of a summer festival.
Senior Account Manager
Becki ‘Efficiency’ Cooper studied communications and information systems at Bournemouth university, putting this knowledge to good use as an account manager at Orbital since the beginning. She enjoys managing complex creative projects and delivering jobs on time and on budget. On the flipside, this Prosecco-fueled good-time girl loves to party til she drops, when the inevitable catharsis demands a prodigious detox regime of gym, dance, yoga, pilates and bucket-loads of alien green nutri-bullets.
Cy earned his degree in graphic design at Bath College of Art. He’s a great all-rounder; equally happy creating exciting innovative concepts or designing lengthy and detailed corporate reports. If he’s not sat at his desk he’ll most likely be tearing up the Dorset tarmac on his bike. He’s a bit of a fanatic – annually cycling hundreds of miles across France for charity. He’s recently been tempted into glamping and can often be found hanging round Swanage quay dressed as a sailor.
Lindsay graduated in graphic design from Bournemouth Arts Institute and went on to further studies in photography, film and animation at the Universität Würzburg in Germany. Three years of face painting at Butlins isn’t the traditional route into the creative industry, but then Lindsay is far from orthodox - often surprising clients with unexpected ideas. Lindsay has two young children, two dogs and a menagerie of other animals and can often be found crying on the floor of her local co-op.
Addzy is a born coder. You can see it in the way his three pale fingers grip his caffeine-rich energy drink, how his soft right palm has been worn bald and molded to the shape of a magic mouse. He lives HTML and dreams in CSS. He loves the smell of PHP in the mornings. Away from work and his blossoming family of flat screens he maintains his screen life gaming or watching sci-fi. But he’s no stereotypical coder, he has a real girlfriend – and she’s lovely.
